Winter Blues

This weather is so damn unpredictable! One minute it’s winter, the next it’s spring, not to mention the frequent rain showers we’ve been getting. Lately I’ve just been winging it with my outfits based on whatever the weather report says when I wake up.

It has been quite nice being able to mix in some warmer weather pieces with cold weather items in my closet. After seeing the always fabulous Ashley Graham in a crop top/trouser pant look on America’s Next Top Model I decided to put a winter spin on it for a day out. Before I continue, let me just tell you that I am truly obsessed with Ashley Graham. Not only does she have great style and a beautiful curvy body but I love her for everything she stands for and represents. Her confidence alone is so inspiring.

Normally I wouldn’t have been brave enough to wear a crop top, especially at home. You might catch me in one on vacation but never on a regular weekend. Let’s be real, I’m no skinny Minnie, so it takes some courage to bare my midsection.

Feeling empowered by Ms. Graham’s confidence I said why the hell not. I shopped my closet for a similar pant and top combo and pulled out this blue overcoat to add my own touch. A statement coat is a great accessory to an all black look. By the way, I found this coat a couple years ago at Old Navy. You can always find some great gems in there if you really look. Since a great shield for my hair is necessary on rainy days, I added a fedora I found recently at Guess to complete the look.

Holiday Looks: Brunch with the Girls

How much do you love a good brunch? I live for a good weekend brunch! After a long week at work I look forward to moments when I can catch up with my gal pals over yummy eats and great drinks. Next stop on the holiday party tour is brunch with the girls featuring this amazing sequined bomber! I am OBSESSED with this jacket. The moment I tried it on I fell in love. This jacket combines cool varsity and bomber jacket trends so nicely and the sequins, well, they speak for themselves.Outfit possibilities are endless with a piece like this so you know I’m about to repeat the hell out of it.

In honor of Christmastime I piled on the sparkle with this look. At first I wasn’t sure if sequin on sequin would hit or miss but I decided to just go for it. Some of the best outfits come from taking risks.

To keep things daytime appropriate I put on my ripped high waisted legging jeans that I wear with just about everything. They’re so comfortable! It’s a style that Express continues to bring back so if you don’t have a pair I suggest you go get one.

I finished it off with some glittery metallic heels that I would normally save for evening occasions and a cool choker. Loving the way this look brought together  both casual and dressy styles for a laid back, chic holiday look.

Would you wear ripped jeans with evening shoes? Leave me a note!

Holiday Looks: Office Party

I can’t believe it’s December already! It feels like this year flew by. I’m so excited because this truly is the most wonderful time of the year! I can’t wait to start working the holiday party circuit in sparkly and festive outfits. The holiday season allows you to be as whimsical and fun as you want to be with your wardrobe. In honor of the holiday season I’ll be doing a holiday look series featuring my favorite pieces that I will be wearing in the coming weeks. From office parties to brunch with the girls and dinner with the family, have no fear I’ve got your holiday outfit inspiration covered!

First up is the office holiday party. My typical work wardrobe is feminine yet edgy. I like to keep a good balance between the two for an elevated business casual look. Since I work in media I don’t have to go too conservative so I love to dress up the more casual pieces from my closet. For our office party I picked out this super cute and fun ivory pussybow dress. I picked this out because it’s so light and easy. I just love the functionality of it. I can definitely work the room without feeling confined in this ensemble.

Since our temperatures haven’t dropped crazy low yet, I decided on a sleeveless coat, the cool weather topper I can’t live without. The length of this vest gives it a nice tailored look.

To add the edge the look needed, I pulled my FAVORITE booties. These leopard booties are the epitome of an oldie but goodie. I bought them several years ago and I still get excited when the Autumn/Winter months roll around so I can strut about in them. They instantly make any outfit look less boring.

And you know I had to throw some sequins into the mix! My Bow & Drape pouch is the perfect accessory to add just the right amount of sparkle to my office party look. Hope they don’t mind the shameless plug 🙂

The Ten Dollar Dress

Fall so far has been absolutely beautiful! With the exception of a few rainy days, it’s been sunny and mild…perfect for days at the farmers market. I love picking out fresh fruits and veggies from the local farmers markets in the area. One of my favorite locations is Gerardi’s in Staten Island. This is actually sort of far from home but since my sister lives in the area, I go there sometimes when I’m visiting.

They have the cutest wall next door painted with flowers so of course I took this moment as a photo op for my latest bargain find from Forever 21: the $10 knit dress.

I was perusing F21’s site a few weeks ago searching for a new pair of faux leather leggings-which I practically live in during the Autumn-Winter months-when I stumbled upon this mock neck knit striped dress. At first I hesitated because there’s always cause for speculation when something is only $10 online, and final sale no less. After adjusting my cart for a good twenty minutes I decided to bite the bullet and try this little number out.

The fit turned out to be great and the fabric is light and breathable enough for in between weather. The mock neck is also totally on trend and season appropriate. To complete the look I grabbed my black caged Zara heels from a past sale. Best of all, this look can easily take me from work to drinks. I love an outfit that can put in overtime.
